Developing a
sustainability narrative

As part of a new corporate strategy launched in late-2020, coatings-solutions provider Hempel introduced an ambitious sustainability strategy that required employee understanding and buy-in to succeed.

  • We worked with Hempel’s communications and sustainability teams to develop a narrative to engage employees on the new sustainability strategy.

  • Specifically, the purpose of the sustainability narrative was to ensure a clear link between the strategy and the story, create alignment, anchor all other communication and ensure one story across the organisation.

  • The sustainability narrative built on Hempel’s strategic narrative which we had completed earlier with the communications team and which had included a series of interviews conducted with Hempel’s leadership team.

  • The final sustainability narrative communicated Hempel’s science-based approach in a clear and engaging way that connected the sustainability strategy to Hempel’s purpose, strategic ambition, customers and products.
